어느덧 금년 한 해도 결실의 계절 시월이 되어, 지난 주말은 추석 한가위로 지냈습니다. 유난히 빠르게 지나가는 세월 속에서 우리를 지켜주시고 때를 따라 돕는 은혜로 인도하시는 주 하나님을 찬미합니다. 이 기도편지를 통하여 동역자 여러분과 함께 감사와 기도의 제목을 나누기 원합니다.
1. 킴미션 설립 15주년 감사: 우리 킴미션이 국제오엠선교회 (미주한인본부, OM KAM)
으로부터 독립하여 비영리 선교단체로 사역을 시작한 것이 2010년 10월이었으니, 어느덧 설립 15주년을 맞이하였습니다. 우리는 무슨 거창한 행사를 좋아하는 선교단체가 아니지만, 지나온 15년을 돌아볼 때, 그리고 많은 우리 동역자님들께서 함께 해 오신 오엠선교회 시절까지 거슬러 올라가 1997년 한국에서 파송받아 출국한 이후 지난 27년 동안 복음과 함께 살며, 때를 얻든지 못얻든지 복음을 전하려는 열정으로 할 수 있는 모든 선교전략을 A부터 Z까지 활용하면서 이어 온 사역들을 돌아보면, 참으로 우리 주 성 삼위 하나님의 은혜가 아니었으면 불가능하였을 순간순간이 한해 한해였습니다. 특별히 하나님께서 부족한 종에게 허락하신 복음의 동역자 여러분 한분 한분이 함께 해 주시지 않았다면 결코 이어올 수 없는 대장정이었음을 고백합니다. 진심으로 감사를 드립니다! 우리 킴미션 (Korean International Ministries, KIM Mission)은 언제나 예수님과의 첫 사랑과 새로운 각오로 우리에게 주어지는 모든 시간과 기회에 최선을 다해 예수님을 증거하며 하나님 나라를 확장, 성숙시키는 데 변함없이 집중할 것입니다.
2. 미션 퍼스펙티브스 제72기 아마존 지도자 세미나: 우리 킴미션이 지난 2002년 봄부터 미주 한인사회와 전 세계 선교지를 방문하며 보급해 온 퍼스펙티브스 월드/글러벌 크리스천 무브먼트 세미나 (Perspectives on the World/Global Christian Movement Seminar) 는 지난 2015년 9월에 이어 10년 만에 두번째로 브라질 아마존으로 가서 아마존 강변마을 지역교회 지도자들을 위한 선교세미나를 진행하게 됩니다. 내년 2026년1월17일부터 26일까지 아마존 정글 속 작은 강변 도시 Coari 시에서 [아마존 찾아가는 신학교] 학장 지덕진 선교사님 (브라질 한인 1.5세, 풀러신학교 선교학박사, 브라질 현지인 지도자 양성 사역 30년)의 기존 신학과정에 따라 진행될 이 세미나에는 김경환 목사와 킴미션의 두 부이사장, 이순권 장로님과 윤수현 장로님께서 동행하여 지덕진 박사님 (현지어 통역)과 함께 5일 간 강의로 섬기게 됩니다. 아울러 아마존의 중심도시 마나우스에서도 현지인 교회 주일 예배와 아마존 한인 선교사님들과의 만남을 통하여 현재 세계 선교의 주역으로 큰 몫을 감당하고 있는 브라질 교회의 선교역량과 선교미래에 관해 배우는 기회를 갖게 됩니다. 저희 3명으로 구성된 단기선교팀은 브라질 여행비자와 항공권을 모두 확보하였으며 각자에게 주어진 강의를 준비하고 있습니다.
3. 미주크리스천 신문 킴미션 사역 및 동역네트워크 홍보: 이번 킴미션 설립 15주년 다가오는 브라질 세미나 사역 내용을 포함하여, 우리 킴미션이 해년마다 한 두 차례씩 해 오던대로 오는 11월 중에 미주크리스천 신문에 1면 5단 컬러광고를 실을 예정입니다. 역사 기록을 위해서도 꼭 필요한 일입니다. 동역자님들 가운데 (직분, 교회 등) 변경된 내용이나 새로운 사진을 사용하기 원하시는 분들께서는 연락주시고 10월 말까지 새로운 사진을 보내주시면 감사하겠습니다.
4. 퍼스펙티브스 세미나 주교재 제5판이 곧 출간될 예정입니다: 미국세계선교본부 (US Center for World Mission, 지금은 없어짐)에서 1970년대 후반에 시작한 퍼스펙티브스 강의는 1980년대 초에 그 강의교재가 정식개발되어 지난 2009년 가을에 주교재 제4판 (4Th Edition)이 출간되어 영어와 한국어를 비롯한 전세계 20여개국 언어로 번역되고 지금까지 사용되어 오고 있습니다. 그런데 이번에 미국 퍼스펙티브스 국제 본부 (Frontiers, Perspectives Global Network & USA, 현재 글러벌 네트워크 본부는 텍사스주 달라스에, 그리고 미국본부는 알간사주 잭슨빌에 소재)에서 기존 주교재를 대폭 개편 보강하여 제5판 Perspectives on the Global Christian Movement (5th Edition) 을 곧 출간할 예정입니다. 아마도 내년 초쯤에는 한국어로도 번역출발이 될 것입니다. 현재 우리 킴미션이 세미나 강의교재로 활용 중인 [세계선교핵심요약] 도 원래 주교재 제4판을 150페이지 한국어로 요약한 교재인데 현재 한영 이중언어로 번역이 거의 마친 단계입니다. 이번에 320 페지 한영 강의교재가 마무리 되면 모든 동역자님들에게 전달해 드리고, 머지않아 새로운 주교재 제5판이 출간되면 즉시 다시 내용을 업그레이드 할 예정입니다.
5. 킴미션 파송선교사 김정용 선교사님 사역지 변경: 우리 킴미션의 유일한 파송 자비량 선교사로 지난 십 수년간 에티오피아 국립과학대학교 교수로 재직하며 현지 에티오피아 및 남수단과 우간다 등 아프리카 이웃 나라에서 유학 온 제자들을 학자요, 국가미래지도자요, 복음의 일꾼으로 양성해 오신 김정용 박사님 (부인 전경화 선교사님)이 이번에 하나님의 새로운 계획과 인도하심으로 중앙아시아 ㅇㅇㅇ국으로 임지를 옮기셨습니다. 대한민국의 서울대학교와 카이스트, 그리고 미국 텍사스 공대에서 연구하신 김정용 박사님은 이번에 옮긴 새로운 사역지에서도 역시 국립대학교 교수로 초빙받아 현지인 제자들을 양성하면서 복음을 전할 기회를 찾게 될 것입니다. 선교사님의 신분과 안전문제로 자세한 정보를 나누지 못하지만, 기도하실 때마다 김선교사님 내외분을 위하여 기도해 주시기를 부탁드립니다.
6. 킴미션 매주 토요일 영상 기도회: 매주 토요일, 미국 중부텍사스시간 아침6시, 한국시간 토요일 저녁8시에 영상으로 만나 성경공부를 함께 하며 복음과 동역자님들을 위한 중보기도를 드려온지 어느덧 만 2년 3개월이 지났습니다. 오늘 아침 (2025.10.11)에도 저희는 05시에 일어나 06시 한국의 이사장 이원구 장로님 (임인선 권사님; 서울), 그리고 충남 당진에서 들어오신 부이사장 김호태 (임미선) 집사님 내외분과 더불어 여섯명이 한 시간 30분 동안 은혜로운 말씀과 기도로 교제하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 우리의 기도에는 항상 선교사님들과 킴미션 모든 동역자님들이 포함됩니다. 이 기도회에 동참하시기를 원하시는 분들이 계시면 매주 고정된 영상기도회 동참 링크를 알려드리도록하겠습니다.
7. 김경환 목사의 미연방 베테랑스 병원 채플린 사역 소식: 하나님의 은혜로 제가 이곳 루이지애나주 슈립포트에 소재한 VA Medical Center 채플린으로 부임해 온지도 2년 8개월이 지났습니다. 미국연방의 2025년 회계연도가 9월말에 끝나고, 지난 한 해 동안 저의 사역을 최종 정리하여 평가를 받기 위해 지난 주 업무 성과 통계보고서를 작성하였는데, 제가 지난 1년 동안 직접 방문하고 만나 목회적 캐어를 한 환자의 총 합계가 1,544명이었습니다. 지금까지 제가 베테랑스 병원 사역 만 3년 7개월간 사역해 오면서 가장 많은 환자를 본 새로운 기록입니다. 지난 한 해 동안 수많은 환자들을 만나고 방문하고, 각종 강의와 성경공부와 채플 예배를 인도하면서 오직 사도적 열정과 사도적 초점 (오직 예수님의 십자가와 부활에 관한 복음, 그리고 성령님의 인도하심과 터치에 의지하여 영혼 구원과 영적인 변화 만이 진정하고 완전한 치료임을 확신하는 사역) 으로 섬길 수 있도록 허락하신 주 하나님을 찬양합니다. 또한 지난 3년 반 동안 단 한 건의 실패, 실수, 또는 민원이나 사고가 없이 3년 연속 최고 평가 (Excellent Performance Award)를 받게 하신 하나님의 은혜, 그리고 동역자님들의 기도에 감사를 드립니다. 이제 또한 하나님께서 보여주실 새로운 사역의 단계와 지경을 바라보고 기대하며 “복음의 양손” (Both Hands of the Gospel,복음과 함께 그들의 필요를 동시에 채워주는 선교전략) 으로 환자들과 그들의 가족, 그리고 병원 직원들에게 다가갈 것입니다. 할렐루야!

KIM Mission Update (October 2025)
Dear Co-Workers for the Gospel,
Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
As we enter this fruitful month of October, the season of harvest, we have just celebrated the Korean Thanksgiving holiday, Chuseok. In the midst of swiftly passing time, we lift up praise to our gracious Lord God, who has preserved us and guided us with His timely help. Through this prayer letter, I would like to share with you our thanksgiving and prayer requests.
1. Thanksgiving for the 15th Anniversary of KIM Mission
It was in October 2010 that KIM Mission became an independent nonprofit mission organization after separating from Operation Mobilization USA (Korean American Mission, OM KAM). Now we celebrate our 15th anniversary.
Although our mission has never centered on events or programs, when we look back over these 15 years — and even further to the earlier years when many of you partnered with us during our OM days — we can only confess that every step since our initial departure as Missionaries from Korea in 1997 has been made possible solely by the grace of the Triune God.
For 27 years, we have lived with the Gospel, striving to proclaim it “in season and out of season,” employing every possible missionary strategy from A to Z. Truly, without the Lord’s grace and the faithful partnership of each of you, our co-laborers in the Gospel, this long journey could never have continued. We sincerely thank you from the heart.
Korean International Ministries (KIM Mission) remains committed, with the same first love for Jesus and renewed dedication, to testify of Him at every opportunity and to labor faithfully for the growth and maturity of God’s Kingdom.
2. The 72nd Perspectives Amazon Seminar for Local Church Leaders in Brazil
Since the spring of 2002, KIM Mission has been promoting and teaching the Perspectives on the World/Global Christian Movement Seminar across Korean-American communities and global mission fields.
In January 2025 (17–26), for the second time since 2015, we will travel to the Amazon region of Brazil to conduct a seminar for local church leaders in the riverside town of Coari and the greater region of the rivers. This seminar will be part of the theological curriculum of the “Amazon Mobile/Traveling Seminary”, led by Dr. Duk Jin Chi (a 1.5-generation Korean-Brazilian, Ph.D. in Missiology from Fuller Seminary, and veteran missionary with 30 years of ministry raising and training local leaders in Brazil).
Rev. Barnabas K. Kim will serve alongside Dr. Elder Soon-Kwon Lee and Elder Soo-Hyun Yoon, both Vice Chairmen of KIM Mission’s Board, teaching five days of lectures with Dr. Chi providing Portuguese interpretation.
The team will also visit Manaus, the main city of the Amazon region, to participate in Sunday worship with local churches, meet Korean missionaries, and learn firsthand about the mission capacity, Brazilian culture, and future of the Brazilian church, now a major force in world missions.
All three team members have secured our Brazilian visas and flight tickets and are diligently preparing our assigned lectures.
3. Publicity in the Christian Times (USA)
To commemorate KIM Mission’s 15th anniversary and introduce the upcoming Brazil Amazon Seminar, we plan to publish a full-color front-page ad (five-column size) in the Korean Christian Times USA this November, as we have done once or twice each year.

4. Upcoming Publication of the 5th Edition of Perspectives on the Global Christian Movement
The Perspectives course, first developed at the U.S. Center for World Mission in the late 1970s, officially released its 4th Edition textbook in 2009. That edition has since been translated into more than 20 languages, including Korean, and widely used around the world.
Now, the Perspectives Global Network (PGN) and USA Offices (headquartered in Dallas, TX, and Jacksonville, AR, respectively) are preparing to publish a majorly revised 5th Edition of Perspectives on the Global Christian Movement. We expect the Korean translation also to be published early next year.
Meanwhile, KIM Mission’s own seminar manual, Core Summary of World Mission, written and edited by Barnabas Kim, originally a 150-page Korean booklet, has now been expanded and nearly completed as a 320-page bilingual (Korean-English) version. Once finalized, we will distribute the digital edition to all our ministry partners, and when the new 5th Edition is released, we will promptly update and resend the revised version.
5. Ministry Relocation of KIM Missionary Dr. JY Kim
Our only commissioned missionary, Dr. JY Kim (with his wife), who has faithfully served for over a decade as a self-supporting missionary (paid by the hosting nation’s government) at the two National Science Universities of Ethiopia, has now moved to a new ministry field in Central Asia under God’s leading.
Dr. Kim, who previously studied at Seoul National University, KAIST, and University of Texas Austin, has been invited to serve as a professor at a national university in this new country, hopefully, will be able to continue his mission. Due to identity issues and security reasons, we cannot share detailed information, but we kindly ask for your continued prayers for Dr. and Mrs. Kim in their new mission field.
6. KIM Mission Weekly Saturday Online Prayer Fellowship
Every Saturday — 6:00 a.m. U.S. Central Time / 8:00 p.m. Korea Time — we meet online for Bible study and intercessory prayer for the Gospel and our mission partners. It has now been 2 years and 3 months since we began.
This morning (October 11, 2025), we gathered again at 6:00 a.m. with KIM Mission Chairman Elder Won-Goo Lee and Mrs. In-Sun Lim (from their home in Seoul), and Vice Chairman Dr. Ho-Tae Kim and Mrs. Mi-Sun Lim (Dangjin, Korea), sharing a blessed time of Word and prayer for an hour and a half.
We always include all our missionaries and partners in these prayers.

7. Chaplaincy Ministry at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center
By the grace of God, it has now been 2 years and 8 months since I began serving as a chaplain at the VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
As the U.S. federal fiscal year ended in September, I completed my annual self-assessment for evaluation (ePerformance). During the past year alone, I personally visited and provided pastoral care to 1,544 patients, setting a new record for my 3 years and 7 months of Chaplaincy service.
I praise our Lord who allowed me to serve so many with apostolic passion and apostolic focus—proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus’ Cross and Resurrection, and trusting the Holy Spirit’s touch as the true and complete healing of the wounded soul.
I also thank God for granting me three consecutive years of “Excellent Performance Awards”, without a single failure, error, non-compliance, or Patient’s complaint — all by His grace and through your faithful prayers.
Looking ahead, I anticipate new phases of ministry that God will reveal, and I will continue to serve Patients, families, and hospital Staff with the “Two/Both Hands of the Gospel”—sharing the Gospel while meeting their practical needs. Hallelujah!
