오늘, 2025년 9월 14일 주일은 특별한 이정표가 되는 날입니다 — 바로 죠이 선교사가 루이지애나 보죠 시티에 있는 반석한인교회에서 주일 오후 한인 성경공부 모임(Korean Bible Study, KBS 그룹) 두번째 학기 첫 시간 공부를 인도하는 날입니다. 죠이는 지난 5월에 교회의 제안을 받고 이 성경공부 사역을 여섯 명의 참여자와 함께 시작했고, 하나님의 은혜로 2주 전, 첫 학기를 여덟 명의 형제 자매들과 함께 큰 은혜와 기쁜 가운데 마쳤습니다. 오늘 시작한 가을 학기는 감사하게도 10 명의 참여자와 함께 기쁨으로 로마서 공부를 시작였습니다. 저는 이 그룹의 일원은 아니지만, 아내와 그룹을 위해 뒤에서 기도하고 지원하며, 한 학기에 한 차례 정도 특강으로 섬깁니다. (우리가 출석하는 이 반석교회에는 주일 오후 같은 시간 대에 미국인 남편들을 위한 영어 성경공부 그룹도 있는데 은퇴하신 미국인 목사님이 인도하시는 모임입니다.)
저희는 반석교회의 담임목사님과 리더십이 저희를 환영하고 사역할 수 있도록 기회를 주신 것에 감사드립니다. 또한 하나님께서 아내 죠이 선교사에게 성경말씀에 대한 지식과 지혜, 이해력, 그리고 가르치는 은사를 부어주심에 늘 감사드립니다. 죠이는 이 전에도 말씀과 기도의 삶을 살아왔지만, 2017년 초부터 저에게 닥쳐온 육신의 질고와 재정적 어려움 등을 겪으면서 더욱 깊은 기도의 골방에 들어가 매일 2~3시간씩 말씀과 개인 기도 시간에 헌신하면서 놀라운 영적 성장을 경험하고 그 때 샌 안토니오 한인여성 그룹 성경공부와 기도 모임을 인도하기 시작하였는데 이제는 더욱 폭넓고 다양한 성경공부와 중보기도 그룹을 인도하는 사역자로 삼아주셨으니, 이는 순전히 하나님의 은혜요 성령님의 인도하심과 다듬어 주신 결과입니다.
주님께서는 우리에게 몰려오는 영적 육적인 도전의 시간을 통해 우리를 하나님의 목적을 위한 유익한 그릇으로 빚어오셨습니다. 주님은 또한 그 어간에 부족한 종을 미육군 예비군 Chaplain으로 시작, 험난했던 애리조나 주립 교도소 채플린 사역까지 거치게 하신 다음에 현재의 미연방정부 베테랑스 병원 (VA Health Care System) Chaplain으로 전임 사역하게 하셨습니다. 우리는 예수 그리스도의 복음과 하나님의 백성의 영적 필요를 위해 쓰임받는 도구가 된 것을 겸손히 감사히 여깁니다.
저희가 하나님의 말씀과 예수님의 성령님 안에서 계속 성장할 수 있도록 사랑하는 동역자 여러분의 지속적인 기도를 겸손히 부탁드립니다. 저희도 매주 토요일 오전 미국동부시간 6시 (한국시간 토요일 밤8시)에 열리는 KIM 미션 온라인 영상 기도모임을 통해 여러 동역자님들과 더불어 여러분 한분 한분을 위해 기도하고 있습니다. 할렐루야!

Greetings from Barnabas and Joy in Shreveport, Louisiana!
Today, Sunday, September 14, 2025, marks a special milestone — the very first day of my wife Joy’s leadership of the Sunday Afternoon Korean Bible Study Group (KBS Group) at BanSuk (“the Rock”) Korean Church in Bossier City, Louisiana. Joy began this Sunday Bible Study ministry in May with six participants and, by God’s grace, completed the first semester two weeks ago with eight members. Today we are rejoicing as the group begins the Fall semester with ten participants (Barnabas is not a part of the group but prays and supports Joy and the group behind the scenes. And there is another afternoon Bible study group – English Bible Study led by a retired American Pastor for the American husbands of the Korean ladies).
We are deeply grateful for the trust and partnership of the senior pastor and leadership of BanSuk Church, who have welcomed and empowered us to serve. I also praise the Lord for His faithfulness in anointing Joy with the gifts of knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and teaching heart. Her dedication to Scripture and her spiritual discipline — faithfully spending 2–3 hours in personal prayer each day since 2017, in which we were going through the seasons of illness and financial trials — has been a testimony of God’s grace.
The Lord has used these times of challenge to mold and shape us into sharpened vessels for His purposes. He has called me to minister as a full-time Chaplain — from my beginnings as a military Chaplain, to serving in Prison ministry, and now as a VA Chaplain — while calling my wife Joy to serve as an intercessory prayer servant and a Bible study leader, both virtually and in person. We are humbled and honored to be used as instruments for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for His people in their spiritual needs.
We humbly ask for your continued prayers, that we may keep growing in the Word of God and in the Spirit of Jesus. We are profoundly grateful for your love and prayers. We also pray for you through the KIM Mission Virtual Prayer Meeting every Saturday morning at 06am CST as usual.
