“You used to teach my Sunday school when I was only eight.

나 어느날 꿈 속에서 천국에 올라가니 당신도 거기계셨지요.
황금빛 천국길과 수정 같은 바닷가를 우리 함께 거닐었어요.
천군천사 음악소리 듣고 있을 때, 누군가 등뒤에서 당신 이름을 불렀지요.
돌아다보니 그 젊은 청년은 얼굴 가득 미소를 지으며 당신에게 다가왔지요.
그리고 그가 하는 말, “선생님, 선생님은 지금 저를 기억하지 못하겠지요. 그러나 잠깐만요. 제 나이 여덟 살, 주일학교 학생일 때, 선생님이 바로 저를 가르치셨고 주일마다 선생님은 성경공부 시작 전 우릴 위해 간절히 기도를 드리셨죠. 어느 주일인가 선생님께서 저를 위해 기도해 주실 때 저는 예수님을 내 맘 속에 주님으로 모셨답니다.”

그 때 또 다른 사람이 당신 앞에 와서 하는 말
“그 때를 기억하세요? 언젠가 선교사 한 분이 당신 교회에 왔을 때
그 선교사님 보여주는 사진들을 보며 눈물 흘리시던 일을.
그 시간 당신은 비록 적은 돈이지만 선교사님께 드렸지요.
주님이 그 헌금을 통해 제가 오늘 이 천국에 올 수 있도록 하셨답니다.”

한 사람 또 한 사람 다가오는데 끝이 보이지 않을 만큼 많았지요.
그 사람들 모두가 당신이 베푼 사랑으로 인해 주님께로 인도된 이들,
당신이 주님께 드린 그 작은 정성이 맺은 열매들이었지요.
세상에서는 몰랐으나 지금 천국에서는 드러나고 나타나는군요.
천국에는 눈물이 없다고들 생각하지만,
그러나 천국에서도 감격의 눈물은 끊일 날이 없지요.
주님께서 당신의 손을 잡아 하나님 보좌앞에 세우실 때 하시는 말씀,
“착하고 충성된 종아, 너를 둘러선 이 모든 사람들이 바로 너의 상급, 너의 면류관이란다!”
